Project

Mental Health Services

We offer comprehensive mental health care, including individual and group therapy, psychiatric consultations, and crisis intervention through our many Mental Health Projects. Our services are tailored to meet the needs of children, adolescents, adults, and families, ensuring personalized and compassionate support.

Mental Health Project

The Lagos Lifeline is a digital platform that provides access to mental health counselling and psychosocial support to Lagosians and Nigerians at large.

The project involves the use of telepsychiatry, available 24 hours to provide access to information, counselling services, referrals, and networking to other social intervention services available in the state. The number utilized for the platform is 090 9000 MIND (090 9000 6463)

The Lagos State Employee Wellness Centre is an outpatient mental health and social care service for employees of the Lagos State Civil Service. The centre was established to create an integrated, evidence-based, recovery-oriented service delivery model that promotes resilience and the well-being of Lagos State Government employees. The LASWELL centre was launched by the Head of Service on the 11th of August 2020 and is open to all civil servants in the State.

This project was activated to implement of one of the streams of the Lagos State Mental Health Policy: Capacity building of human resources for health to provide mental health services. This policy stream specifically seeks to align with the WHO recommendation of integrating mental health into primary health care as the 9th component of Primary Health Care.

Awareness and Advocacy

We lead mental health awareness campaigns and educational programs to reduce stigma and encourage open conversations about mental well-being. Through workshops, seminars, and community outreach, we empower individuals to prioritize their mental health.

Awareness and Advocacy Programs

School Mental Health Awareness and Prevention Services (SchoolMAPS). Compelling studies have raised significant issues that show the importance of implementing mental health interventions early in a child’s life. For example, a significant proportion of all mental health disorders begin by age 14; 1 in 6 children below the age of 10 has a mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder; Boys are more likely than girls to have behavioral and developmental disorders, such as conduct disorders; and girls are more likely than boys to have mental disorders, such as depression and anxiety.

A global estimate by WHO indicates that about 10% of women suffer from depression during pregnancy, while about 13% of women experience depression after childbirth. This goes on to affect the attachment between mother and child – an essential factor in the healthy physical and cognitive development in children. Indicatively, maternal mental illness has a significantly negative impact on growth and development.

The University Mental Health Program is designed to support the emotional well-being and mental health of students, faculty, and staff within the academic community. Recognizing the unique pressures of university life, the program offers a range of services, including counseling, crisis intervention, mental health workshops, and peer support groups. With a focus on early intervention and promoting resilience, our program aims to create a supportive campus environment where mental health is prioritized, and individuals can thrive both academically and personally.

In addition to our internal efforts, we also participate in external training programs organized by other institutions and organizations. As facilitators or trainers, our experts share their knowledge and expertise in mental health, contributing to the capacity building of professionals in other sectors.
