Treatment and Management

The mental health desk runs a Suicide Hotline called the Lagos Lifeline. This lifeline provides behavioral health responses via telemedicine (phone counselling and online support). Callers are asked a series of questions, and are provided with brief counselling and referral as needed.

Walk-in assessments are available in any of the facilities listed as providing mental health treatment across the state. The facilities are equipped with health workers who are trained in the provision of mental health assessment, treatment and management. A referral pathway is available per district, between the primary health centers and the district general hospitals. There are also supporting facilities which help in the treating and managing severe symptoms.

Treatment and management include therapies, medication or a combination of both. Considerations of an approach to take depends on the nature of the mental health conditions and/or symptoms, as well as the person experiencing it.
