Accessibility

This site should work for everyone. Tell us where it doesn't.

People come to this site in distress, on old phones, on slow connections, and sometimes using assistive technology. It needs to work for all of them.

What we've built in

  • Every function works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator.
  • Text and background colours meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast requirements.
  • Animation is disabled automatically if your device is set to reduce motion.
  • Content is readable without JavaScript, and remains visible if scripts fail to load.
  • Tap targets are at least 44 pixels, and the helpline is reachable from every screen.
  • Pages are built with proper headings, landmarks and labels for screen readers.
  • The site is lightweight, so it loads on a slow connection.

Where we know we fall short

  • Some documents are published as PDFs that have not been checked for accessibility.
  • Embedded maps rely on a third-party service we don't control.
  • The facility tables are wide and require horizontal scrolling on small screens.
